Abstract The household appliance has a door (2, 3) 5 which can be operated by means of a handle (10). The handle (10) can be moved back and forth between a first and a second position, such that a grip element (11) of the handle is located close to or in the door (2, 3) in the first position, while it is at a distance from the 10 door (2, 3) in the second position. In this way the handle (10) can be moved out of the way when it is not needed. Preferably, an air gap (22) can additionally be opened and closed with the handle (10).
