The fitting for attachment to the shoe of a cyclist enables the shoe to positively engage the pedal, and to be freed from it, at will. A rubber or plastics layer (4) is clamped to the sole (2) of the shoe (1) by a plate (3) with a U-shaped ridge (5) across the middle. This engages a bracket (8) mounted on the pedal (6). A stirrup (8) made from two bent straps, enclosed the spindle (7) of the pedal, has its bottom ends (10) bent outwards for securing to a base plate (11) by screws (12), for attachment to the pedal. The top ends extend upwards to fit into the ridge across the sole plate (3). This plate has slots at one side so that it may be slid sideways to engage two pillars projecting upwards from the base plate for positive engagement.
