Method and apparatus for monitoring the thermal stresses on a wire electrode of an electrical-discharge cutting machine

An electrical-discharge wire-cutting machine has a measuring circuit (10), in order to determine that longitudinal portion of the wire electrode (1) on which a discharge takes place. This information is entered in a circuit (11) which simulates the supply of heat to the wire electrode (1) and its distribution in the surrounding region and in the adjacent portions of the wire electrode (1). A control signal for varying a working parameter is emitted when the simulation results in an abnormal heating of the wire portion. This monitoring method makes it possible to prevent a wire break and nevertheless guarantee maximum electrical loading of the wire electrode (1). <IMAGE>
