Disclosed is a lighting device, particularly for a motor vehicle, essentially comprising a housing (5) which is covered by a transparent, optically inactive cover pane (1) and in which at least one light (11) is arranged, said light (11) being formed by a lamp (4) and an associated reflector (3). A screen (7) which is disposed between the cover pane (1) and the light (11) and is embodied as a partially translucent mirror separates a rear lighting space (9) receiving the light from an anterior lighting space (10) formed by the screen (7) and the cover pane (1) such that the rear lighting space (9) is invisible to anyone looking in the direction of the light (11) while the screen (7) is transparent to the light emitted by the lamp (4) when the lighting device is on.
