Electrochemical elimination of residual monomers in latex, is based on decomposition of oxygenated water catalyzed by electrochemically regenerated metallic ions The process of reduction of residual monomers content in latex comprising 10-60 wt.% of polymer particles of diameter 50-1000 nm and containing 500-3000 ppm of residual monomers consists of following stages: (a) introduction of at least one oxidable metallic ion (Cu<2+> or Fe<2+>, preferably the latter), in amount 0-10 mmoles per each 100 g of latex; (b) introduction of oxygenated water, in amount 1-50 mmoles per each 100 g of latex; and (c) immersing metallic electrode, of cross-section 5-50 cm<2>, into latex and applying potential 0.1-0.4 V (preferably 0.35 V) in relation to saturated calomel reference electrode, until the content of residual monomers is reduced to required level.
