PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus and an image processing method with which a shading correction coefficient suited for an image can be selected.SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus includes: an image block statistic circuit 118 that divides a photographed image into a plurality of blocks and takes statistic of pixel values for each of the blocks to calculate a block statistic value; a coefficient storage part 122 that stores a first shading estimation coefficient group including a plurality of shading estimation coefficients corresponding respectively to a plurality of light sources; a shading estimation part 124 that selects a second shading estimation coefficient group including at least one shading estimation coefficient appropriate for the photographed image from the stored first shading estimation coefficient group according to at least one of image flatness of the photographed image, lightness of a subject, and temperature of a subject; and a shading correction part 126 that applies a shading correction coefficient corresponding to the selected second shading estimation coefficient group to the photographed image to correct shading of the photographed image.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
