The brake is designed to overcome the problems associated with freeing the splines of the two opposed pivots during stripping down for repair of the universal coupling transmission and to avoid the introduction of foreign matter whilst the two half bearings are demounted, removing the need to detach the braking arrangement. The two halves of each bearing are made up as single pieces such that the bearings remain attached to the coupling and transmission when it has been unbolted from the braking system. The stator and rotor of the brake remain attached to the axle or gearbox.
|
