Process and apparatus for treating SO2-containing exhaust gases

A process for treating SO2-containing exhaust gases is described, in which the exhaust gases are if appropriate prepurified, cooled and fed to an SO2 scrubber with a physical or chemical solvent and are then fed to subsequent solvent regeneration. In order to be able to release into the atmosphere the purified exhaust gas, complying with given air pollution values in a simple, inexpensive and space-saving manner, it is proposed that exhaust gas depleted of SO2 via the head of the SO2 scrubbing column is released directly into the atmosphere by means of a stack attachment on the scrubbing column. In this manner, the untreated gas-pure gas heat exchanger and the separate stack can be dispensed with.
