PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the methods capable of effectively inhibiting formation of polymer(s) in both vapor and liquid phases in a refining column even under especially severe refining conditions and of attaining necessary continuous operation. SOLUTION: This method comprises using, in a refining column, as polymerization inhibitors, N-nitrosophenylhydroxylamine or a salt thereof in combination with a manganese salt compound, copper salt compound and/or phenothiazine compound. In this method, N-nitrosophenylhydroxylamine or a salt thereof rises inside a refining column under splitting part thereof to effectively inhibit polymerization of (meth)acrylic acid or the like. Combined use of the above- mentioned compounds enables the polymerization to be synergistically inhibited in both vapor and liquid phases.
