A residual material separator is used for flush basins where a filter bowl is fitted above a drain pipe. Specifically, the separator is in the form of a separate stand pipe (3). It is designed so that it can be releasably set up in the drain orifice (2) of the flush basin. It has a removable filter (7) and a funnel shaped, top filler opening (6). More specifically, the funnel (6) is asymmetrical, and it can be suspended in the funnel opening with a grip piece (8). Further, the stand pipe (3) can be telescopically extensible.
