A process for applying media to materials by means of a rotating template or a perforated drum is according to the invention designed such that the medium is guided into the template (1) at the centre of the material passage, is released there and is distributed or distributes itself towards the lateral end regions. A device for carrying out the process, which comprises a rotating template (1) or a perforated drum with supply means for the medium and transport means for the material web is designed according to the invention such that, in the interior of the rotating template (1), there is arranged a conveying screw (10) which is effective towards two sides and has, centrally along its length, at least one outlet cross-section (30) for release of the application medium, the vanes of which run, from the central region of their length, extended towards both sides in a mirror-symmetrical manner. <IMAGE>
