<p>The system for the remote checking of power levels in optical connections consists of a multiplicity of units for the optical sampling of signals from a corresponding multiplicity of optical transmission lines; means for converting the sampled optical signal, corresponding to a predetermined fraction of the optical power passing through the said transmission lines, into an electrical signal proportional to the said predetermined fraction; a multi-channel scanner arranged to sample the said electrical signal in a predetermined sequence; a computer system to handle by means of a program the said electrical signals proportional to the optical power passing through the said transmission lines and to emit an alarm signal in the event of a significant drop in the optical power passing through one or more of the said lines.</p> |
