PURPOSE:To provide a method and a device for forming a wire ball, which is formed by fusing the tip of a metal wire, stably with no dispersion of size, shape, quality, and the like. CONSTITUTION:In a device for forming a wire ball 1, an atmosphere gas injection nozzle 4, whose outlet tip side is turned into a straight tube guide 5, is provided, and the straight tube guide 5 is arranged on the same axis as a capillary 10. When the wire ball 1 is formed, the atmosphere gas is emitted from the straight tube guide 5 along the axis length direction of the capillary 10 to the tip side of the capillary 10, and a discharge is caused between the tips of a discharge electrode 11 and a metal wire 2 while the movement of the metal wire 2 is held down. With a discharge energy, the tip of the metal wire 2 is fused to form the wire ball 1. |
