PURPOSE:To provide polarization scrambler of a high speed, high performance and high stability by arranging an incident side optical path part in such a manner that the incident polarized wave on the incident end side of an optical waveguide element is made incident with a linearly polarized wave at a prescribed rotating angle to the main axis of the optical waveguide element within the plane normal to a progressing direction of light. CONSTITUTION:This polarization scrambler consists of the optical waveguide element 22 having an electro-optic effect, the incident side optical path part arranged on the incident end side thereof and an exit side optical path part disposed on the exit end side of the optical waveguide element 22. The incident side optical path part has at least an incident side optical fiber part 23 and a micropolarizer 25. The incident side optical path part is so disposed that the incident polarized wave on the incident end side of the optical waveguide element 22 is made incident with the linearly polarized wave at the prescribed rotating angle to the main axis of the optical waveguide element 22 within the plane normal to the progressing direction of the light. At this time, the prescribed rotating angle which is previously and initially adjusted to a range of 4+ or -15 deg. is more preferable. The incident side optical fiber part 23 of the incident side optical path part may be composed of a polarization maintaining optical fiber. |
