An optical line saving apparatus and an optical transmission system using the same are provided to save optical lines using a WDM(Wavelength Division Multiplexing) technique in an existing optical network constructed in a point-to-point method, without additionally installing new equipments. An optical line saving apparatus(300) comprises wavelength converters(100-1-100-4), a multiplexer(200), and modulated signal connection lines(320-1-320-4). The wavelength converters(100-1-100-4) convert forward signals of the first terminating station or a switching station into optical signals of appointed wavelengths. Also the wavelength converters(100-1-100-4) convert reverse signals of the second terminating station into signals of a wavelength that the first terminating station or the switching station requires. The multiplexer(200), installed between the wavelength converters(100-1-100-4) and an optical line, multiplexes forward signals, modulated at respectively different wavelengths, and transmits them to the optical line. Also the multiplexer(200) demultiplexes reverse signals, transmitted from the optical line, and transfers them to respectively corresponding wavelength converters(100-1-100-4). The modulated signal connection lines(320-1-320-4), connected between the wavelength converters(100-1-100-4) and the multiplexer(200), deliver modulated optical signals. |
