<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten a starting time of a device for manufacturing hydrogen by solving the problems that, even if a reforming catalyst attains an activation temperature at a startup, a steam generator is not yet heated up to the temperature to allow generation of steam in some cases, and even if the reforming catalyst already attains the activation temperature, the temperature of the steam generator becomes the rate-determining factor for the operation, making it impossible to immediately start a reforming operation in some cases. <P>SOLUTION: The device for manufacturing the hydrogen includes a reforming reactor which has a reforming catalyst layer, a burner which is arranged in one space section of the reforming catalyst layer in the reforming reactor and to which a hydrocarbon-based fuel and oxygen-containing gas are supplied, a combustion catalyst which is disposed between the reforming catalyst layer and the burner, and a steam generator which is disposed between the burner and the combustion catalyst and supplies steam into the space section. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
