<p>PURPOSE:To prevent any crack initiation in a collector from occurring by reducing a temperature differential in the radial direction of this collector and incinerating the collected particulates in time of regenerating this collector. CONSTITUTION:A ceramic collector 1 is housed in a vessel 6, while three electric heaters 7a, 7b and 7c are installed in and around an exhaust gas downstream end face of this collector 1 concentrically at regular intervals, and first of all, an outer circumferential part of the collector 1 is preheated by the electric heater 7a to be situated in the outer circumferential part, and then the other two heaters 7b, 7c are tuned on and ignited, whereby a temperature differential between the outer circumferential part and the inner part and a thermal stress to be therefore produced both can be held down to smallness, through which any crack initiation in the outer circumferential part of the collector 1 is prevented from occurring.</p> |
