PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a cycle time and the operation in a cycle sewing machine capable of raising a cloth presser when the stitches for one cycle have been formed. SOLUTION: In a holing sewing machine having the configuration of this invention, a cloth presser 31 can be set on a position corresponding to an intermediate position A, a highest position B and a cloth pressing position C in accordance with the position of a pedal, that is, a neutral position, a backward pedalling position and a forward pedalling position. When a predetermined number of button holes have been formed, the cloth presser 31 can be automatically moved to the highest position. When the cloth presser 31 is moved to the intermediate position, the work cloth W can be shifted, further the cloth presser 31 can be raised and lowered without using an excess time, and further the difference in positioning of the body of a garment when the cloth presser 31 is positioned too high, can be prevented.
