COMPENSATION FILM FOR LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY ELEMENT AND OCB MODE LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE INTO WHICH THE COMPENSATION FILM IS BUILT

PURPOSE: To provide a compensation film capable of executing color compensation and also capable of expanding the visual field angle that has been impossible, as a compensation plate of liquid crystal display of OCB mode. CONSTITUTION: This compensation film for liquid crystal display element is used for the liquid crystal display element of OCB mode having a liquid crystal cell 2 and a pair of upper and lower polarizing plates 1, 5 holding the liquid crystal cell 2. At least one sheet of the compensation plate to be built between the liquid crystal cell 2 and a pair of the upper and lower polarizing plates 1, 5, consists of a discotic liquid crystalline optical film formed by immobilizing the orientation form of discotic liquid crystals. The orientation form of the optical film is hybrid orientation varying in the angle formed by the directors of the discostic liquid crystals and the film plane between the front surface and rear surface of the film.
