The panel (1) has an annular closed hollow cross-section and is divided into 2 essentially identical halves (22,23) by a central longitudinal plane in the vehicle's longitudinal direction. The panel can be used for right or left hand drive by pivoting it. One half of the panel faces the vehicle interior and the other faces away from the interior. The panel can be pivoted about an e.g. vertical axis through 180 degrees to reverse the orientation.
