HEAT TREATED BLOOD PLASMA PROTEIN

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cryoprecipitatable blood plasma protein having been subjected to a virucidal heat treatment.

SOLUTION: The cryoprecipitatable blood plasma protein dried by freeze drying is prepared which is subjected to a severe terminal virucidal heat treatment in order to inactivate viruses present therein while retaining its desirable biological properties. In particular, the freeze-dried cryoprecipitatable blood plasma protein has solubility in water or another aqueous solution to 40 g/l in 20 minutes at 20°C and a clotting time of 10 seconds or less when exposed to at least 200 U/ml thrombin. The resulting product may be heat-treated at 80°C for 72 hours up to 100°C for 10 hours depending on its composition and water content. In the preparation process, the cryoprecipitate is washed with polyethylene glycol at 4 to 10°C and pH 6.8 to 8 at low ionic strength prior to two-stage freeze drying.
