<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved method for producing hydrogen and carbon monoxide at a high conversion rate by partial catalytic oxidation of hydrocarbons. <P>SOLUTION: The method is to produce hydrogen and carbon monoxide by partial oxidation of the hydrocarbons, wherein the partial oxidation is carried out, starting at a low temperature of approximately 10°C or higher, by bringing a reduction metal catalyst comprising transition metals composed of nickel, cobalt, iron, platinum, iridium, rhenium, ruthenium, rhodium, osmium and their combinations carried on or in a ceria-coating zirconia monolith carrier into contact with a mixture of a feed material gas containing the hydrocarbons, a feed material gas containing oxygen, and hydrogen. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
