PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accentuate the boundary of a tissue by means of an ultrasonograph without accentuating noises. SOLUTION: A one-dimensional mask M is scanned for a line of echo data. The position of the gravitational center of echo data in the one-dimensional mask M is computed, and a differenceδbetween the position of the gravitational center and the position of the center of the mask is computed. The value of the echo data of concern is converted according to the magnitude of the differenceδ. In this case, only the differenceδwith a positive value may be used. Also, a plurality of conversion characteristics may be prepared to selectively use either of the conversion characteristics according to the magnitude of the differenceδ.
