PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevating device and a elevating method for elevating a wide sheet in a rolled state to a setting position of an inkjet machine. SOLUTION: (A) The elevating device comprises a leg part (22), a strut (23) supported by the leg part, and a elevating member (24) which moves up and down along the strut. The elevating member (24) has an arm (25) of the length of at least 1/3 of a paper pipe (11) around which the roll of the wide sheet (10) is wound. (B) The method for moving up and down the wide sheet (10) for inkjet printing with the use of the lift includes the following processes. (a) The wide sheet in the shape of a roll is brought close to the leg part (22) of the elevating device. (b) The arm (25) of the device is inserted into the paper pipe (11) of the wide sheet.
