摘要 A device for measuring core body temperature comprising a first surface 210 in thermal engagement with a body, a second surface 211 opposite to the first surface and exposed to an ambient environment outside of the body. Two temperature sensors 204, 205 are encapsulated within a first material 201. A second material 203 having a volumetric heat capacity substantially greater that of the first material is located between the two temperature sensors. The net thermal conductivity across the device is greatest along an axis 212 defined between the two temperature sensors. The second material may be a battery 203 for powering the device. The battery may act as a thermal mass and help to temporally isolate the sensors from one another and to smooth fluctuations in the ambient environmental temperature due to its thermal inertia. The first material may be a thermally conductive polymer and have anisotropic thermal conductivity.. Preferably the materials differ in heat capacity by at least 20%. There may be third and fourth temperature sensors 301, 302 located on the same axis and within the first material to give two pairs of sensors each separated by a thermal mass 206, 207.
