A control apparatus for controlling an image pickup apparatus including an image sensor that has a plurality of pixel portions respectively having a plurality of photoelectric conversion portions and outputs an image signal from the photoelectric conversion portions, the control apparatus comprising:
a first processing unit configured to calculate correlation information between image signals, which are respectively output from one of the pixel portions positioned in one of a plurality of first regions; a focus detection unit configured to perform focus detection on the basis of a calculation result by the first processing unit; a second processing unit configured to calculate correlation information between image signals, which are respectively output from the one of the pixel portions positioned in one of a plurality of second regions, wherein the one of the second regions includes a region near the one of the first regions, is larger than the one of the first regions, and corresponds to the one of the first regions; a distribution information calculation unit configured to calculate distribution information corresponding to an object distance on the basis of a calculation result by the second processing unit; and a control unit configured to control the second processing unit and the distribution information calculation unit on the basis of the correlation information calculated by the first processing unit. |
