摘要 PURPOSE: To enhance reliability and economic efficiency by comparing an actual combustion with a combustion characteristic in order to deploy an error signal, and installing a means for supplying a throttle valve with an electronic control signal, as a function of the error signal, so as to operate an engine at a lean air-fuel ratio limit beyond which the engine misfires. CONSTITUTION: Engine output power to be required by a driver is detected by a sensor 34, and a fuel injector 20 is operated so as to supply a cylinder 12 with a sufficient amount of fuel so as to satisfy a request of the driver by an electronic control unit 32. Subsequently a sensor 40 connected to a combustion chamber supplies a signal, showing a combustion in the cylinder 12, to the electronic control unit 32, while a sensor 38 connected to a crankshaft 18 supplies this control unit 32 with a corresponding signal showing a crank angle. This electronic control unit 32 compares the combustion in the cylinder 12 with a combustion characteristic of lean burn to control a throttle valve 28 so as to make the lean burn air-fuel ratio function at the vicinity.
