<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fullerene derivative which (1) has high energy density, (2) is chemically and electrically stable, and (3) excels in electric conductivity, can extremely reduce the amount of a current collector used such as carbon graphite in forming an electrode active material layer, and has an extremely small difference between the theoretical capacity and the battery-available capacity, an active material using the same, and a secondary battery. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The fullerene derivative has at least 1-60 nitroxy radicals in the molecule and simultaneously contains a metallic atom produced from a metallocene or by the thermal decomposition of a metallocene.
