<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare printing images by treating characters in the same fashion as an image and to edit the image by using a plurality of screens by means of a small-capacity memory for printing. <P>SOLUTION: The full color image is rendered on the first screen 70 having an information amount of 4 bytes per pixel. In the characters, an inputted character string is rendered on the second screen 72 having an information amount of 1 byte per pixel in the same fashion as other image as the character image having an information amount of 1 bit per pixel and color information. Now, the second screen 72 is superimposed on the first screen 70. Furthermore, the operation screen 74 having an information amount of 4 bits per pixel and displaying information required for operation is superimposed on the second screen 72 to form the displaying screen 76. RGB (Red Green Blue) data is outputted for displaying the displaying screen 76 on a monitor. The contents of the first screen 70 and the contents of the second screen 72 are described as scripts.
