PURPOSE: A global positioning system and a method thereof are provided to reduce search error by changing search range of position information efficiently through controlling a search area according to a traveling direction of a vehicle. CONSTITUTION: A receiver(22) receives position information of a present vehicle from a GPS satellite. A connection unit(21) with an external computer(10) receives position information of a guide target. A position information storing unit(24) stores the transmitted position information. A guide information storing unit(25) stores guide information provided in correspondence to the position information stored in the position information storing unit. A control unit(26) guides the guide target of corresponding information after searching position information of the guide target. And an output unit(27) outputs guide information by the control unit. The position information of the guide target includes tag information given to each divided area of the whole area of the guide target. The control unit searches only the area including the guide target using the tag information. |
