METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR SEARCHING MOTION VECTOR TO IMPROVE CALCULATION SPEED

PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for searching a motion vector are provided to reduce a number of search times by searching some 1/4 pixels using a motion vector of an integral number unit and a predicted motion vector(PMV). CONSTITUTION: A method for searching a motion vector includes the steps of determining an integral number unit pixel by searching a motion vector for integral number unit pixels. A 1/2 unit pixel is determined by searching a motion vector for 1/2 unit pixels around a pixel corresponding to the motion vector of the determined integral number unit pixel. A 1/4 unit pixel is determined by searching a motion vector for some 1/4 unit pixels existing between the integral number unit pixel and the 1/2 unit pixel among the whole 1/4 unit pixels around a pixel corresponding to the motion vector of the determined 1/2 unit pixel.
