A fluid shut-off valve for pipes or tanks incorporates a conical plug which may be swivelled within a matching aperture. The plug (2) rotates about the valve casing (1) longitudinal axis (3), and has a conical rim (4) at one or both ends. This rests against the matching face of a supporting saucer-shaped bearing (5). The plug is rotated as required by torque applied to a spindle (15).
