The device (1) is designed as a metal ring (2), open at one side, which can be shaped into a truncated cone (5). The size of the overlapping area (4) can be adjusted in order to match the size of any saucepan, used for boiling a soft or liquid substance like milk, a soup, or the wter used for cooking pasta, which all have a tendency to overflow, when the boiling point has been reached. The device (1) is held in place by its own tension and by several flaps (6) protruding from its rim, which can be placed on the rim of the saucepan. Surrounding oppenings (10) facilitate the overflowing liquid (7) to return (11) into the container.
