PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To discriminate an arc signal from a signal due to a dimmer and a signal in start-up, so as to prevent an erroneous trip. SOLUTION: This detector is provided with a current detecting part for detecting a variation of a current to generate a signal proportional thereto, a signal conversion part for passing a high-frequency component and for limiting a level not to exceed a preset signal level, the first level amplifying part for limiting a level in a signal output from the signal conversion part to be amplified, a signal level detecting part for judging whether an input signal exceeds the first preset reference voltage or not, so as to generate a detection signal, a pulse generation part for converting the detection signal from the signal level detecting part into a normalized pulse form, the first arc judging part for counting a pulse signal output from the pulse generation part for a preset time, and for judging whether an arc is generated or not, so as to generate an arc detection signal, and a circuit breaking part.
