An LCD and a fabrication method thereof are provided to remove the height difference between a storage electrode line and a pixel electrode, thereby preventing the generation of texture of liquid crystal molecules when an electric field is formed at the LCD. A storage electrode line is formed on a substrate. A pixel electrode(191) at least partially overlaps the storage electrode line. A passivation layer(180) is formed between the storage electrode line and the pixel electrode. The passivation layer includes a first area overlapping the storage electrode line and a second area which does not overlap the storage electrode line. An upper surface of the first area is on the level identical to or lower than that of an upper surface of the second area. The passivation layer includes an organic insulating material.
