METHOD CHROMA INTERPOLATION OF IMAGE ENCODER AND DECODER

A method for interpolating a chroma signal in an image encoder and a decoder is provided to perform a 1/4 interpolation process selectively referring to a motion vector and perform 1/4 interpolation operation by shifting data stored in a register by row and column, thereby performing quick operation without multiplication operation. A method for interpolating a chroma signal in an image encoder and a decoder comprises the following steps of: accessing a memory unit for loading an integer-fold pixel value for plural motion compensation blocks(S500); searching for the location of a motion vector for performing the sub pixel interpolation of the chroma signal for the plural motion compensation blocks(S510); and interpolating the pixels of a 1/4 portion by shifting data by row and column when the motion vector indicates the pixels of the 1/4 portion for the plural motion compensation blocks(S540,S550).
