A device and a method to reduce the temperature of a vehicle engine M in a vehicle 1. The engine M is provided with a cooling system for fluid-borne cooling that has a thermostat that is configured to regulate a flow of a cooling agent in the cooling system in a normal mode of operation. The device comprises a control unit that is configured to receive activation data φ and to generate a thermostat- control signal based on the activation data φ and to transmit this to the thermostat, whereby the thermostat is configured to be placed into a cooling mode of operation that differs from the normal mode and in which the thermostat regulates the flow of cooling agent according to rules for the cooling mode such that the vehicle engine M is cooled while the vehicle engine M is in operation. |
