<p>To obtain the correct tape wrap angle (124) at the head in a cassette loaded recorder, tape guiding support "outriggers" (117, 119) integral with the head assembly (113) are provided. The outriggers (117, 119) are located on either side of the active magnetic transducing element (121) of the head structure to guide the tape (116) and to establish the tape/head wrap angle (124) independent of the exact locations of the cassette guides (114, 118). Slots (129, 131) separate the magnetic transducing element (121) from each of the outriggers (117, 119), presenting an edge (126, 128) at each side of the head to skive any air film adherent to the moving tape (116) as it approaches the head's transducer (121). Additionally, the entire head and outrigger structure (113) is fabricated from the same or mechanically similar materials and has an overall constant area profile contour which wears at a uniform rate due to tape abrasion.</p> |
