PURPOSE: Provided are a system for controlling the output and temperature of fuel cells and its method to control the efficiency of electrical output and the generation of heat by arranging the electrical outputs of fuel cells in serial or in parallel. CONSTITUTION: The system(910) comprises a first fuel cell(FC1) which can provide an electrical output; a second fuel cell(FC2) which can provide an electrical output; and a switch circuit(920) containing at least one switch which arranges the electrical output of the first fuel cell and the electrical output of the second fuel cell in serial or in parallel for controlling the efficiency of the electrical output and the generation of heat. Preferably the system comprises further a temperature measurement circuit which measures the temperature of the first fuel cell and the second fuel cell and provides the signal into the switch circuit; and/or a controller which controls the switch circuit. Preferably the first and second fuel cells comprise a solid oxide fuel cell.
