PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a switching hub device which can improve switching performance by shortening the processing time needed to discard packets communicated between LAN terminals present in the same LAN segment. SOLUTION: Port (#1 to #n) transmission reception control circuits 17-1 to 17-n transfer received packets to a packet queue managing circuit 15. The packet queue managing circuit 15 extracts DA from the packets and transfers information on the data and reception port number to a search memory control circuit 12. The search memory control circuit 12 requests a search memory circuit 13 to retrieve only DA information and requests a search memory circuit 14 to perform retrieval using 'DA + port number'. The search memory control circuit 12 indicates the discarding of packets in response to matching state signals from the search memory circuits 13 and 14.
