A motor control arrangement has at least two series field windings S201, S202, in which one field winding S201 is connectable to a main power source CPS201 and the other field winding S202 is connectable to an auxiliary excitation power source CPS202. The main power supply voltage is detected at VD201, armature current is detected at ID201, back emf is detected at EMFD201, speed is detected at SD201, auxiliary excitation voltage and current are detected at VD202, ID202 and the voltage drop across the series excitation field is detected at VS201.
