The invention refers to a life saving device, designed to rescue the occupants of tall buildings, in the event of a fire. Its function is based on the use of a descent cable for the subject who is provided with a protective suit, and a winding mechanism that has a drum with inertial braking, which automatically assures a safe descent. The device consists of a bolt with a flared sheath (1), for fixing in the interior wall of the building to be evacuated in the event of fire, a connecting cable (2), which is spliced and protected with Teflon, a winding mechanism (3) equipped with an inertial braking system, which ensures a descent at a pre-established speed, and a protective suit (4) for the subject. The suit is made of aluminised flameproof cotton and has a flat filter cartridge, reinforced and strengthened with metallic cord, with the attachment point of the descent cable (6) situated between the shoulder blades of the subject.
