<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for repairing a nickel-based alloy article giving a repaired portion having a fine crystal grain microstructure. <P>SOLUTION: A method for repairing nickel based alloy articles such as gas turbine rotors (12) generally includes removing a damaged portion (28) of the articles and laser cladding a high temperature nickel based alloy powder thereto to form a solid layer (30). The process can be repeated until a desired thickness is obtained.
