<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming system, an image forming apparatus and its controlling method and program in which image formation utilizing a portable terminal can be realized efficiently. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming system comprises a portable terminal 402 and an image forming apparatus 100 being connected through a communication line and forms an image at the image forming apparatus 100 based on data receiving from the portable terminal 402 wherein the portable terminal 402 detects address information indicative of a storing place of image data, extra information including thumbnail image information, and extra information on a recording medium on which an image based on the image data is formed. Subsequently, detected extra information is transmitted to the image forming apparatus 100 through a communication line. The image forming apparatus 100 receives the extra information from the portable terminal 402 through a communication line.
