PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable AF actions to be done reliably and accurately under whatever circumstance.SOLUTION: An observation apparatus for medical use is equipped with a plurality of image pickup units that pick up images of a test object and output their respective picture signals; a focus information acquiring unit that acquires focus information on the test object from the picture signals respectively outputted from the plurality of image pickup units; a selector that selects, on the basis of the pieces of focus information acquired from the focus information acquiring unit, an image pickup unit suitable for focusing on the test object; and a focus control unit that focuses, on the basis of the picture signal outputted from the pickup unit selected by the selector, on the test object.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
