PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a chromia-containing refractory excellent in corrosion resistance and suppressing generation of hexavalent chromium for overcoming problems that, though a burnt brick and monolithic refractory having moderate amount of air bubbles in the materials are used as materials having spalling property for the chromia-containing refractory applicable for a furnace with temperature variation, no novel method for improving corrosion resistance of these materials has developed, and environmental load is increased as there is a case of generating hexavalent chromium by the chromia-containing refractory after use.SOLUTION: A chromia-containing refractory contains vanadium oxide. Thereby, in the chromia-containing refractory, if apparent porosity thereof is set to the same level as those of conventional examples, elution amount of hexavalent chromium is reduced about 60%, erosion amount is largely reduced, and erosion speed is improved.
