Artificial, esp. silk, flower treatment with acrylic] resin binder - by dipping in or brushing with opt. coloured dispersion paste for dimensional stability

In the prodn. of artificial flowers from textiles, the flowers are: (a) dipped in a dispersion paste (IA) diluted with water, with acrylic resin as binder, with s.g. of about 1.300 g/cc, then dried for 1-2 hrs. at room temp.; (b) dipped in or brushed with a dispersion colour paste (IB) with s.g. of about 1.350 g/cc, shaped by hand whilst the petals are still flexible, then dried for 5-6 hrs. at room temp.; or (c) dipped in (IA), predried for about 1 hr. dipped in or brushed with (IB), shaped and then dried for 5-6 hrs. at room temp. The leaves and/or petals are pref. given a light fast colour by dipping in or brushing with a dispersion colour with s.g. of about 1.150 g/cc of any selected hue. Dimensionally stable flowers with a silky, porcelain-like lustre are obtd. by dipping in or brushing with a colourless dispersion binder with s.g. of about 1.000 g/cc and drying for 3-4 hrs.. USE/ADVANTAGE - The technique is claimed for use in the prodn. of silk flowers. The flowers can be made dimensionally stable, and various hues and surface lustre effects can be obtd. by using one or more treatment stages
