<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain data and voice communication simultaneously between an ISDN connection and a standard POTS connection by transferring respectively a voice band signal and a digital signal resulting from demultiplexed packets to an analog terminal equipment and a data terminal equipment respectively. SOLUTION: After a software platform discriminates whether or not a destination location 12 has an analog POTS connection, a connection is set up between the location 12 and a caller location 10. A packet generated by the platform is demultiplexed into a voice band component and a digital signal component. Then a special firmware 24 in a MODEM 22 demodulates the digital signal component, and the resulting data are transferred to a data terminal equipment such as a computer 26, and the voice band signal is transferred to an analog terminal equipment such as a standard POTS telephone set 28. That is, the MODEM 22 distributes each component as voice signals and data on request for signals to the telephone set 28 and the computer 26 according to a signal from a communication network 14.</p> |
