A position referencing system for the medical examination or treatment of specific areas of the body employs an assembly (20) having a minimum of three reflecting surfaces (21a,21b,21c) whose positions are registered by a computer aided sensor and/or computer tomograph. The reflectors (21a,21b,21c) are detachably mounted in a holder (22) which is secured (23) to an adaptor (10) formed in similar fashion to a denture which has a spoon-shaped construction (11) and contains an air-hardening dental moulding material (12) in which a soft rubber insert (15) connects with an outlet (13,14). After hardening a pumped negative pressure at the connector (14) promotes firm location of the adaptor (10) against the roof of the mouth.
