PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oxidation catalyst with little deterioration even when the catalyst is used for the treatment of gas containing heat-decomposable fluorocarbons or acidic components. SOLUTION: The oxidation catalyst is prepared by supporting noble metals, in particular, platinum on an alumina carrier having 30 to 95% fluorination degree. The method for oxidization uses the above catalyst.
